ISIC Association Participates in IAU Conference 2024 in Tokyo

The ISIC Association took part in the International Association of Universities (IAU) 2024 Conference, held from 22 to 24 November at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. Representing ISIC at this significant global event was Mr. Fumio Takano from ISIC Japan, who shared his valuable impressions and takeaways.

Themed “University Values in a Changing World,” the IAU Conference brought together over 300 participants from 82 countries, including university presidents, rectors, and academic leaders. This gathering created an incredible opportunity for exchanging perspectives and fostering collaboration across the global academic community.

The conference began with an inspiring inauguration ceremony, featuring addresses by Dr. Yoshiaki Terumichi, President of Sophia University; Mr. Arata Takebe, Vice Minister of MEXT (Japanese Ministry of Education); and Dr. Andrew Deeks, IAU President. These opening remarks set the stage for engaging discussions and meaningful networking throughout the event.

Mr. Fumio Takano actively participated in key sessions, such as Universality, Diversity, and Interdependence, Higher Education Towards Global Citizenship, and sessions focusing on digital innovation and equity in education.

Between sessions, he connected with university leaders from around the world, gaining fresh insights and building relationships that will contribute to ISIC’s efforts to better support students globally. The ISIC Association extends its gratitude to the IAU and Sophia University for hosting such an impactful event, as well as to Fumio Takano for his active involvement. We look forward to integrating the insights gained into our strategies to further empower students worldwide.
